An attractive speckled stone-grey shell is submerged by the ivory blotches that splash broadly across this egg, stains and drops that puddle together towards the pointed end, dollops of cream and trickles of pearl and splatters of melting snow drizzled over again with milky swirls.

Egg Inspiration: There's often that moment, just after you drop something, and you can -see- it's going to cause no end of mess, but there's a detached part of your brain that can't help but think 'it looks kind of pretty, though'.
A fluffy crown of crinkled pattern tissue layered in pale shades of citrus yellow, soft pink, and plumy purple, streams and twirls in dangling piles to circle the crown of the ovalesque form and play havoc amongst the streaming blonde gold strands that limn its length. A pair of bright blue pools and the splash of a happy bowed red that curves with abundant joy and resplendent excitement. One who happily wears a toilet paper crown as they toast the future with daiquiris and show off to the world the third set of cutlery to be patterned for immortality in a family's memory.

Egg Inspiration: It's amazing what we do when we are drunk!
This whole egg looks remarkably familiar to weyr dwellers. Most of its surface is covered in what folks call 'caverns gray'. One side, however, has a strange design on it. A walnut brown oval shape, darker on the inside than the thin rim sitting near the top of the ovoid, seems to be the source of the long trail of white leading down. To the viewer's eye, it looks remarkably like the cook's favorite
tuber soup.

It’s a blast from the past of the best kind. Straggly long hair, awesome afros, and clothes that should be more costume than everyday attire mark the time, while broad grins, bright smiles, and feckless joy depict the attitude. An afterthought in the distance is a tiny band on stage with a background of swirling, whirling psychedelia.
Described by: Q'luin
Egg Inspiration: A couple years back I was going through my dad’s old pictures and saw a bunch with these people in them! The concerts, the clothes, he had a huge black afro (he’s Wailaki Indian), the smiles, the crazy fun. It was all there. It made his passing much easier, because I knew he had a really awesome full life.
Essentially this egg is green; a rather generic, boring shade of old kelly green, that's not really worth looking at. But what jazzes it up are the blurred streaks that dance above the verdant base - they're
images moving too fast for the camera to catch. Black, grey, brown and white, blurred in different joyful shapes of happy bouncing, leaping, twisting and spinning.
Described by: Indiana
Egg Inspiration: Anyone who knows me knows how bunny-mad I am. ;) This egg was inspired
by my rabbits, who, on a daily basis, have a mad session of binkies - which is what we call their happy bunny dance. They hop and skip and twist mid-air and generally look rather mad, and whenever I've tried to catch them doing it on camera, they just turn out as little blurs. Why the colours? Well, the room that they live in has a green carpet. I have five rabbits - Thistle, who's grey and white, Lupin, who's black, Juniper, who's white with black spots, Lilac, who's brown and white, and Clover, who's black with white patches.
A winding road of black pavement bisects this egg's middle, steaming in the summer heat after a day of drizzly rain and mist. Evening approaches now, creeping dusk and gray that overtake one side of the rough shell to encourage tiny flecks of green to hop for dashing yellow lines. Slippery-quick, they congregate out of the way of the vague red and yellow and blue splotches that follow them with reaching hands, released as soon as they've been captured to return to the wild green forests that crowd that meandering street.

Exuding stillness, sleek and smooth and silent, this large egg appears to be the deepest shade of midnight, a rich shade of nothingness, and yet, viewed from any angle, clinging to the outer extremes of its wide girth is a halo of bright golden light that reverberates across the shell's surface, fringing into tinges of fuzzy tangerine that stand out against the darkness behind.
Described by: Kezia
Egg Inspiration: Eclipses are the ultimate natural freezeframe – everything stops when the sun is covered, without light there's nothing.
Prancy dancy fancy Clancy high steps, mane aflow, eyes aglow, the rest
you know. It's in black and white, the little rider's plight, with
reins she will fight. Pavement burns, the parade turns, and
disappears out of sight.
Described by: Q'luin
Egg Inspiration: I've seen endless parades with the tiny little girl
on the mammoth out-of-control horse. It was the first image that
jumped out when I was trying to take a snapshot from my mind, so here
she is: Dancy Clancy.
Mottled darkly in tones of stormy gray, this egg could be easily overlooked but for the eye-catching split down its center. Is it cracked, is that a flaw? The smooth shell plays host to no obvious imperfections, and yet that jagged streak of blazing, white-hot glory seems almost defiantly displayed, impossible to ignore and magnificent in its irregularity. Towards the rounded base of this surface, it kisses green and merges there; here, one can hardly untangle the upward flow of black limbs and leafy green flashes as it cradles and eventually devours the shaft of light. They consume one another, each in their own way taking the other's life, but for this single captured moment where they meet.

A tangle of uninterrupted flesh kissed by voluptuous shadows tells little of the private whispers uttered or affections given. Is it lust or love? Familiar or stranger? One night or a lifetime? Innocent or not? A plethora of questions are left unanswered, but one thing is clear – sensuality is beautiful.
Described by: Q'luin
Egg Inspiration: I spent a long time looking for a picture to represent one of the most beautiful things known to humanity. This one was perfect. You have to stare at it for awhile to actually see what is happening in the photo, and I thought it’d look fantastic on an egg. Besides, it’s /me/ that’s writing it. What did you expect? Fluffy bunnies?
Out of inky black, watercolour blues and greys intermingle and blend together in a dark infusion which lightens out as they streak across the curves of this egg, washing out all other colour. Near the wide, rounded end curves a fine line of fiery red that is highlighted in blood orange and a hinted rainbow of wilted carnation blooms, all that remains.
Described by: Kezia
Egg Inspiration: I like watching the sun go down, especially from the air or over the sea. It's that little moment just after the sun has dropped below the horizon, however, that's really special – where everything suddenly stops and there's just the darkness left to come rushing in.
This egg, one of the smaller ones, is like a precious emblem of familial warmth, colors snugly cradling it with their soft yellows and pinks. Ribbons of a molten, though still pale, orange flows down the mixture as though a ribbon tossed from an eager hand in celebration. On the far side of the shell, the softness is marred by something a little darker - a murky gray sifts over colors to form a dim silhouette: a couple, laughing.
Described by: Jacquline
Egg Inspiration: Based off of a picture of a couple sharing a romantic moment)
This one is stormy, captured by the spirit and essence of a violent element in action. This egg is larger in size, shell wrought with frantic beats of grays and browns, with a shot of yellow mixed with white strung through. But what's this? Down, near the lower edge of the shell, there's a lone spot of red, as though a brave soul weathering the storm.

A lonely moment stolen from the past leaves a faded memory of a booger green and diarrhea yellow sand box flooded with sandy toys in a tiny deserted backyard. The backdrop of a tall ancient wood fence looms to shroud with shadows as the day trundles on, and naps are being taken out of camera's range.
Described by: Q'luin
Egg Inspiration: This is from a memory of an actual photograph from my childhood that I remember really crazy well (Not the egg photograph sadly). The colors of that thing were horrid, but I played it to death! I also hated naps. No naps! Play play play!
This egg is unattractive from the get-go, covered in spatters of hideous gray and yellow that shine wetly from the crumpled piles of white tissues that overtake the more rounded end.
Described by: Abigail
Egg Inspiration: I thought this egg up when I was sick, and sneezing everywhere.
A light green egg sits here, its pale shell covered with leaf shapes that seem to blend easily. The one part of the egg that stands out is the light blue droplet that hits the bottom of the egg, leaving a splash that bounces back as though caught by a skilled sketch artist's pen. The little droplets from the splash sit on top of the leaves, reminding one of the Istan forest's rain.

There's a heart-stopping moment in most people's lives that seems to have /almost/ been captured here. Surprise, love, excitement, nerves - they're all embodied in the diamante glisten this egg has. From afar, the colouration it bears, being mainly white with opaline shimmers, could almost be seen as this egg having been cut from a precious stone, with each facet reflecting the light around it. But up close, it's obvious just how smooth the surface is, and also obvious is the little claw-like markings of gold at its base, like a secure grip on an engagement diamond.
Described by: Indiana
Egg Inspiration: So this one isn't from my own experience, but rather from a website I was reading while bored. It's http://www.firstdance.com/mp2.htm, and it got me thinking about how great a picture it would make, that first moment when that all-important question is popped. But then I thought there's only really one star of that particular show - and that's the diamond in the ring. And so that's what this egg is - a snapshot of a brilliant-cut diamond, set into a gold ring, reflecting the light and all the emotions around it.
Somber sobriety in black and grey hues pervade a sorrowful scene of stone standards, grave onlookers dressed in mourning attire, with agonized expressions, and a flower strewn treasure chest holding the lost love on the brink of everlasting peace. A faint indistinct ethereal woman is poised for eternity with a glorious smile and an energetic wave that layers atop the exact center of the picture. Double exposure, or?
Described by: Q'luin
Egg Inspiration: This is an ode to all the old photographs with mysterious ghostly figures lurking in them. Many people called them 'ghosts', but in reality, they were probably double exposures. There was always that lingering question – Could it be?
A length of gray concrete and a strip of cautionary yellow give way to a long stretch of black and brown track that spirals from one end of this fat, rotund egg to the other, quicksilver boxcars and squealing wheels that speed merrily away. It's the racing red heels, flashing warning from the stairs near the platform, that call attention to the windowed doors that slide shut - just a second too late.
Described by: Abigail
Within the crisp white planes of neat packaging and wispy tissue paper rests dozens of silver lame rosettes spiraling lopsided to splay across the ruffled front. A ferocity of puce foil catches glinting motes and lights the convex crescent amidst intertwining frilly lace and starchy ribbons over an underskirt of polyester itchiness to reveal a cacophony of poofy and blistering ugliness. Should it roll it will crinkle or possibly rustle unnatural, all synthetic and not by man made; a duty of love to bear, which years of tears, laughter and friendship demands.
Described by: Emilia
Inspiration: We met in kindergarten, played in junior band, had sleepovers, went to camp, laughed together, cried together, fought vehemently, roommates at college, angst about jobs and only after 18 years do I truly learn she has absolutely rotten and vile taste and must really secretly hate me because I have to shell out $220 and wear this thing out in public for 6 hours; and I did!
Though ovoid in shape as it should be, the slope of this egg's shell is purposeful. Indeed, it expands out on one side much more than the other, a graceful arc stopped only by some aberration in the shell texture near the bottom, a tiny bump outward, and darker than the rest. And the coloration of this egg centers around this nub of shell; most of this egg is a creamy color, marred by faint pink scars stretching across the widest part of the curve. Too, on either side, a darker tan shade, with subtly darker lines dividing this tan into what looks like a hand over a hand, a gesture of affection caught on shell. These changes in hue are toward the lower portion of the egg, cupping that belly of a curve, enveloping and protecting the odd shape of this warm and expectant egg.
Described by: Marjani
This egg was inspired by pregnancy pictures of the couple holding hands and touching a pregnant belly. I think this sort of tactile experience describes the love and excitement of an expanding family when caught on film… and I think that idea is appropriate for an egg holding a dragon, given the depth of attachment in a dragon to rider bond. Still, it is a bit of a funny idea, a pregnant belly egg, so I included a "outie" belly button and stretch marks. I guess I just took the idea and ran with it, wanting to do something that was both sweet and a little bit silly.
Across one edge of the oval flank, shiny black patent forms rest beneath the pliant folds of newly creased woolly gray to wait in nervous and restless anticipation. The stutter of softly pitted cement hangs above the line of a painted precipice curling into inky reflection and thin layers of water shifting colors of hemlock brown, ochre saturated yellows and faded blue. Expectant and impatient to the impending shock that swirls in a torrent rush of water from the other side. A flash of amber reflected in a translucent tidal wave of murky and cool that is dangerously displaced from the puddle at its convex by the hard unforgiving blackness of speeding rubber.

Egg Inspiration: Idle fears that creep into your mind when you are eating toast spread with Nutella hunched over the kitchen counter looking at your Daytimer. (I never claimed to be normal!)
Molten lava sprouts out at the top of this egg, slowly cascading down the rock hard surface as it pours from the tip. The lava edges its way down the blackened mountain, making its way down to the fleeing people below. Smoke billows up as another eruption threatens to break free from the image burned into the surface of this ovoid. One can almost feel the heat emanating off the smelt stone.
Described by: R'ki
There's only one word to describe the colors that have seized hold of this particular ovoid: gaudy. Bright strands of whatever bright color anyone can imagine zing and zip across this medium-sized shell, warring with one another and never melding to make a dim shade. One thing that stands out is that this one has an odd collection of yellow dots, strewn across the midsection as though beacons of cheerful light. Beneath this is some mass of a brighter yellow, looking suspiciously like a cake that is sometimes found in the living caverns.

An awe inspiring glacier-sliced mountain reigns supreme, framed by dramatic pines that reach toward pristine blue heavens. The scene evokes the sense of the serenity of sublime nature, untouchable by man, painstakingly wrought by some loving deity. It is at this moment of peaceful sanctities that a motorhome breaks through to mar the moment, and shatter the memory for a lifetime.

Egg Inspiration: Before digital cameras you’d take a photo, and not know exactly what you got sometimes until you had them developed. I had this amazing photo of Half Dome in Yosemite, but it had a motorhome going through the bottom of it at exactly the wrong moment. At first I was bummed, and then I laughed. It’s one of my favorite pictures of Yosemite, and I have hundreds.
Clear crystal coalesces into a transparent orb, a glass globe holding fantastical delights. Wafts of white rise at the apex, hints of steam dancing above pale steeping tea. No loose leaves are found here, but instead a bloom floats to the top from an unfolding bulb of dry green. Like a candle of white, the stem uncurls into a column and ends in a crimson blossom of spiky petals. Forever suspended in liquid and shell, a moment of tranquility captured for all time.

Egg Inspiration: The attached picture is of a tea flower. A dried bulb is placed in a glass and as the tea steeps, the bulb unfolds and up rises a flower. It is very popular in China and as recently become available in the US. This picture was taken by me in a traditional teahouse next to the Great Wall of China, Jan 2007.
