Gwynne
There is an undeniable air of confidence that decides this woman's presentation she sets forth to the world around her. Average height is negated by the acute athleticism that Gwynne was worked hard most of her life to develop and maintain and is further inspired by the richly golden hues of her tanned skin. Deliciously dark chocolate hair, occasionally flecked with the lighter milk, falls straight and true past her shoulders, encompassing what could be best explained as an -almost- square face. Full lips, defined jaw, almond-set eyes are all pretty, but unassuming when compared to the piercing icy gaze she'll offer almost anyone who dares cross her path. Lacking in any true color, only a hint of blue lingers in the outer edge of iris as this becomes her most notable and defining physical trait.
1) Tell us about your character's background. Where did they grow up? What
was their childhood like? Do they have siblings? Lots of extended family?
Along with her brother Ildenin (and a few others) Gwynne grew up in the region of Nerat on a little non-descript hold whose primary function was farming. She comes in at second youngest among a total of six siblings (the youngest being Ildenin) and the only female of the family after their mother was lost in childbirth. Predominantly raised by the strict hand of their father, the older siblings would also lend a supportive hand.
Being the only girl meant that she was able to get away with a little more, at least amongst her brothers, though Pa had a slightly different view on things. Having trader flowing through their veins, a gift from their mother's side of the family did little to ease the tension and angst their father often generated. It was this angst that eventually drove Ildenin to leave home, leaving Gwynne as the 'youngest' to fend for herself. It was this departure and her own headstrong ways that seemed to push their father more and more into setting up an arranged marriage for his daughter, utterly convinced that if he didn't marry her off and soon, she would end up much like their one time trader grandmother.
One day, push finally came to shove and headstrong Gwynne refused to accept that her life would be nothing more than the wife of some pot-bellied, pimple-faced holder's son. So with the aid and support of her older brothers, she slipped away with a passing caravan with the futile hope of one day tracking down her wayward brother. What happened during her time on the road is still unclear, but she arrived on the beaches of Ista a very guarded and cautious individual.
This is where her life started to become just a little more interesting….
From her sometimes brief, but always unpredictable encounters with bronzerider to Q'luin, to her unceremonious introduction into jailhouse living, and now to her Search and Candidacy thanks to friends Yandra and Allegrith, life since arriving on Ista Isle has been anything but boring.
Candidate Questionaire
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of
people, or a few in particular?
Every time I go to finish this question off, the answer seems to have changed, but this is a good thing!
Gwynne, given her personality, isn't exactly close to a whole lot of folks in her life. She likes, respects and will gravitate towards certain Weyr/Hold personalities, but overall she has kept predominantly to herself. Or so I had thought….
Fellow Candidates:
Jorlen - She likes Jorlen. He made an impression that one time when he commented on taking about one of Lord Sterling boats. Too bad there was never any real intent behind that comment, as Gwynne would have been in full support of such a move.
Lisyana - Definitely an appreciation for the young girl here. The downside for Lis is the blood the runs through her veins, being related to both Qi and Sterling. Gwynne finds herself enjoying Lis' company, however is perpetually forced to keep her guard up, not due to any fault of the other, but in regards to her kin and -their- views on Gwynne.
Essiach - The jury is still out on this one. He's definitly a source of entertainment for her, but too and because of familiar ties she has chalked him up to being 'no better' than his cousin Q'luin. And well, when you consider the wadger they've made and the prize he's requested should he win, can one really blame her?
Gunilla/Imee - There is something about these two that causes Gwynne to look out for, or at least take them under her wing to some small degree. It doesn't mean they're entirely safe from her stand-offish nature, but in real times of distress she's been found to be reaching out a supportive hand or outright guiding them (well Guni and Imee just seems to follow) to a safe haven - as in the recent flood.
Mika - Give or take. She hasn't interracted a great deal on a personal level with Mika and that might be just as well as Gwynne's assertive personality might run amok over Mika's more shy tendancies.
Mycroft - One of the 'bad boys' of the group. Gwynne's not buying into that and is rarely if at all intimidated by this fellow.
Ildenin - Her PC bro! The one character that she does have a fierce loyalty to. Without a doubt Gwynne loves Ildenin (she did leave home in part to find him!), and would do almost anything to keep him safe. This doesn't mean to say that she doesn't find him, irritating, annoying, frustrating or exasperating - she /does/. That just means he's the perfect little brother. ;) Just don't think she'll allow just anyone to smack him upside the head 'cause well that's /her/ privelage.
Azerra - She has yet to really interract with Aze, being one of the newest to arrive to the barracks, so it is likely she will be a little more guarded around the new arrival until they manage to spend some time interracting with one another.
Weyrfolk/Holders:
Lord Sterling - No loveloss here! She currently has a 'deal' worked out with Lord Sterling that entails (suposedly) a whole lot of spying and then reporting back on his very own son Q'luin.
Q'luin/Zhoreth - It's a love to hate relationship. She fully on believes he's 'cracked' and only tolerates him because of a 'deal' she's been forced to make with Sterling. Everytime she's started to think he might actually be a reasonably cool individual he goes and pulls some sort of wild stunt, throws her for a loop and only solidifies her dislike for him. The one saving grace in this pairing is Zhoreth whom Gwynne actually finds herself liking on some subtle level.
M'rlin - A rider, newly transferred in from High Reaches and someone she's only interracted with a couple of times, but has earned her curiousity if not general respect and liking.
Yandra - One of the few within the Weyr whom she took to and looks upon as a friend. It touched her more than she was willing to admit when it came to light that it was Yandra who noticed her missing from the Weyr (during her incarceration back at the Hold).
Rh'iad - Another rider she's come across a few times, more in group settings but someone who's always struck her as amusing and easy to get along with.
S'tao - An interesting situation is developing here between the Weyrleader, her brother and herself. At least in Gwynne's mind, if only because their origins have far too many striking similarities to be just coincidence.
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your
character? How would you like to build on that?
With Gwynne, there are several different aspects to her personality that I am currently enjoying, though if I have to pick one, then I would have to say it is the fact she won't always walk the path of being 'good'. Don't get me wrong, she's not an evil character, not by a long shot, but being the only girl among a family of protective men gave her a taste for manipulation to further her own gains. She's also an opportunist if the situation presents itself, but above all of this is the fact she is, for whatever reason (I like to blame in on family genetics) a magnet for trouble.
To build on something like this I would say the simplest way would be to, through RP, continue to but her in compromising situations. She's not a perfect character and I love seeing her get into various amounts of trouble brought on by her own doing, or by others. The best way of course for this to happen will be me thrusting her out into the fray of RP, which I am always open for doing!
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others
help you do this?
You know, even though there are parts of Gwynne's personality that are a challenge for me to RP at times (mostly because I am trying out a new style), I honestly don't think I would make any major changes with her. I like the character as she is and I think that as with any artistic creation, small tweaks might be in order here and there, but would be best brought about by character exposure, growth and above all else experience. So RP, RP, TPs, and more RP!
As her player, I am -always- open to suggestions too. Sometimes the best ideas or character adjustments have come from observations or outside sources who have a more detached, unbiased view of what we, as players are trying to establish.
Our buddy, Jorlen! So happy to have you at the weyr! Feel free to dismantle anything you like on your own profile page!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Jorlen was born and raised at Ista Hold, the latest in a long line of farmers. From the time he was about 8, he was helping his dad in the fields. The only problem is Jorlen discovered he hates farming and really wanted to do something else and asked to be apprenticed to a craft. Hid dad said no. After his dad made the mistake of leaving his tools unsecured, Jorlen decided they'd look better in all their pieces. The dad was not pleased, though Jorlen kept up the tool assault until his he was finally sent to the smith's to learn how to put things back together or actually make new tools for a change.
Shortly after the tool disassembly commenced, he met Lisyanna, Gwynne, and Q'luin on the beach, got licked by a dragon, smelled like wherry for a day, then became a smith. He was part of the tithe boat (nevermind the unfortunate joke about taking apart the boats that was heard by Lord Sterling) and did the quake dash back to the boats, though he found himself back at the weyr to help with repairs for a short while and returned back to the hold, escorting Lisyanna when the flight broke out.
While helping a Fort rider with getting a special order lined up, he went outside to investigate the Ista invasion and was then drooled on and searched by Sephiroth.
Candidate Questions
1. See above. Only child, no other relatives aside from parents.
2. Closest to Lisyana. Chats with a few of the other candidates like Gunilla and Mika
3. He's intelligent and likes to figure out how things work and to lesser degree put them back together. It would be fun I think to have him come up with something smith wise. I have some OOC ideas, though need to make them a little more inclusive.
4. The question seems to imply how I'm dissatisfied with the char which I'm not. As far as char development, he's beginning to discover girls. A lot can happen with that. He also doesn't always think everything through completely before speaking either. The comment he made about taking boats apart while standing next to Lord Sterling for example.
So glad to have ya, Lisyana! Come on and spam us with your fabulous!
Spammy? Moi? I don't know /what/ you can possibly mean… so hold on to your hats!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~History of the (18?!?) Ages*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Lisyana is from Ista Hold. Once considered one of Lord Sterling's endless nieces and nephews (with both older and younger brothers), she is know acknowledged as being Lord Sterling's daughter (illegitimate), and current heir. Where once she was his personal messenger, often given permission to wander all of Pern with one of the duty dragonriders (as long as she had a message to deliver), lately she has been his wandering heir visiting old friends and family. Not only is bronzerider Q'luin her brother, but so too is brownrider E'siac - both as over protective as her newly found father. She has, in the last 4 turns, stood for both Ista and Fort Weyr Clutches, and counts riders among both groups as dear friends. And flowers must always be given to dear friends.
Coming to Ista for Isyth's Clutch was actually not expected. Gaining Lord Sterling's permission to Stand was even less expected. It took Q'luin making a bargain or two with their father to have it happen, and if she goes home she has duties to perform. However, this is an unexpected pleasure. At least she'll have a time with friends and no immediate pressure to assume duties. And even better! Nieces and Nephews! Maybe even…. TWINS!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ It's Not Who You Know…. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Family:
E'siac - Lisy's older brother, ex-apprentice Seacrafter, and brownrider. He's over protective, but given he has a wee one coming, he's been rather pre-occupied.
Sterling - Father and Lord Holder, Lisy's been dealing with him in a personal and professional manner since she was twelve. And even now that she's close to grown (if still too short for words), he has a special spot in her heart. How else would he have gotten her to even slightly agree to being Heir? He's already trying to match her off!
Q'luin - Oldest brother and bronzerider - the two may have not ended up close, but that has since changed without a doubt. The two are close, and there is little the two won't do for each other. Even their fights don't last long - and she often feels horrible if they even have one! He is over protective and controlling, but she is starting to get him to loosen up some. And he's make sure that there are plenty of family members shorter than her. Rock on! And another on the way. Clearly, he got what their sire lacked.
Friends:
J'rlen, Mika, Zerra - all three stood on Ista's Sands with Lisy her first time around. Dear friends, she doesn't get to visit as much as she used to, due to various conflicting duties.
Wyn - once Gwynne. The two did not start out as friends, but.. comrades in trouble. Since then, however, Lisy has grown to see the Weyrwoman as a dear friend, an adviser, someone to figure out clothes with, and someone to look up to. Clearly, the world is in danger.
I'deni - Bronzerider, new Weyrlingmaster. This was another who stood on the sands that first time. She's since kicked him in the shins too, among other things. Trouble together, trouble separate - trouble just describes these two to a tee. However, she's fond of him. Enough to get into arguments with beloved brothers. And him.
S'tao and Rh'iad - Weyrleader and dragonhealer. She's tried to poison one, and had the other stab her repeatedly with needles. Of course she's fond of them! Also, Rh'iad had her help with an injured dragon once. She tried looking into beast-healing after that, but it never truly took off.
Tia - Weyrsecond and another of Lisy's mentors. Just think! Her brothers asked she and Wyn look after Lisy. Isn't it fitting that they did so?
Candidates:
Alistair - she's actually semi-avoiding this one. His name makes her sad. But he's also from the Hold, so she's not really hiding from him.
Zhaifyn - he has no name! But he's handy with climbing and being tall.
Klohi - a sweetie, this one.
Niles - he's her inside source for all things trading. Also, immediately blamed for when Q'luin knows things He Should Not! However, he's still around after being kicked in the shins, so clearly, they are friends. Really.
Cordelia - scary, scary person. She and Sterling are never allowed to meet!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*… But Who You Are *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Despite growing up, Lisy is still as energetic as she was when she was knee-high. The fact that she's still practically knee high is a source of humored annoyance. She views everything as a wonderful adventure that she can bedeck with flowers, or sing off-tuned about, but not everything is an adventure. Bad things can happen. Beliefs can be torn to shreds, then mended with love and affection. I love this fact about her, even though it makes her more than slightly shallow. In fact, slightly shallow may be slightly optimistic on the matter. While gaining some maturity will be a good thing, coming through rp will be the best way to go. And either way, I can't see having anything but the utmost fun with her.

History
Essiach was born in Ista Hold, the rambunctious nephew of Lord Sterling. His parents fostered him off to Tillek's Master Sea Hold when he was about 10 Turns old. They decided that he needed a structured environment that would teach him respect and responsibility but also turn their son into a contributing member of the Hold. Whilst in Tillek, Essiach formed close bonds with many a-creative characters, each one contributing in some small way to the young lad's own personality. What resulted was a teenaged boy who could meld and adapt to pretty much every environment and social group - so long as there's sea nearby. He can swear, drink, and fish along with his Seacrafting buddies, he can weave baskets with the Old Aunties and gossip about all things he's heard here and there, he can be a supportive shoulder and yet also a terribly cruel tease.
When he was promoted to Senior Apprentice, he was posted to his home, and after seven Turns (not ten as I've mistakenly RP'd more than once o.O#…) he was finally reunited with his family. Not long after settling back into Ista Hold, Lilyth rose and was caught by Q'luin's Zhoreth, resulting in searchriders being dispersed to collect Candidates for the clutch. Amongst the Candidates from Ista Hold was Essiach's then-thirteen Turn old sister Lisyana and Smith Apprentice Jorlen. Essiach, since the very first day of his arrival back to Ista, believed that Jorlen's intentions with Lisyana were none too appropriate (despite both Lisyana and Jorlen's constant insistance that theirs was a purely platonic friendship). And so the next morning after Lisyana was swept off to the Weyr, Essiach made chase after her, without a clear plan as to what he would do once he got there.
Thankfully, cousin Q'luin provided a solution to the problem of poor, little innocent Lisyana being at the Weyr unsupervised, and dubbed Essiach a co-Candidate alongside his sister. But as it turns out, Candidacy at Ista Weyr is a far cry from anything the Seacrafter expected - including but not limited to such occurances as foreign weyrwomen disguising themselves as Candidates, and trading insults with a fellow Candidate in a battle of (immature) wills.
But Essiach has adapted well to life as a Candidate, though he hasn't quite accepted that he is really a Candidate for the upcoming clutch. His insecurities seem to get the best of him in that regard.
Current PC Relationships
Essiach ICly gets along with pretty much anyone he comes into contact with, but this is a list of people who have some impact on him in one way or another. You get to be on this list if you've RP'd with me more than just once or twice — or if you have an emotional or familial tie to Ess. So you'd all better start RPing with me, hmm?
Lisyana: sister. Currently a Candidate for Ista Weyr.
Iona: love interest. Fort Weyrwoman, Gold Orlaith.
Jorlen: potential sister-corrupter. Currently a Candidate for Ista Weyr.
Gwynne: fellow Candidate and gambling partner.
Gunilla: fellow Candidate and unofficial cuddlebuddy.
Ildenin: fellow Candidate. Ess doesn't much trust him, so he made it on this list.
Q'luin: cousin and role model. Ista Weyr, rider of Bronze Zhoreth.
Sterling: uncle. Lord Holder of Ista.
++OOC Comments
My favourite part about Essiach is his wishywashy-ness. Like most 17-year-olds, his personality is still very much in the making and he's prone to occasional bouts of moodiness (though they're short-lived). But for the most part he just enjoys having a good time. And the only way to really build on him is to continue RPing! And I really wouldn't change anything about him - nothing that won't be changed with gradual RP. So let's get out there and play!
Welcome to search, Gunilla! Your uncle G'dal is going to have a cow! Enjoy this page however you wish!
*~*~*~
Gunilla History!
The first obvious thing, or maybe not so obvious thing, is Gunilla is the niece of G'dal, who is rider to brown Fannath.
When Gunilla was just a few Turns old her mother had an unfortunate accident in the baths which led to her drowning, leaving G'dal with the task of raising Gunilla. Due to his rather lax ability to raise a child she mostly grew up as a weyrbrat at Igen, running about with the other children wild as a llama, though never without the watchful eye of her uncle who ensured that at the very least his niece was provided for and didn't get picked on by the older brats as she grew up. G'dal took his sisters death incredibly hard, and while the rest of Pern doesn't understand why the old Stinky man refuses to bathe, Gunilla knows full well why (his sister drowned in the baths, thus they are anathema for life), and goes out of her way to ensure that when she does come upon her Uncle, in favorable climes, that he bathes in whatever water source is available, lake, sea or ocean.
One of the few places of refuge this motherless child found herself in often were the kitchens at Igen where she'd watch with wide eyes the going ons, cooking and cleaning and the talk of the aunties and other cook staff, finding most of her maternal figures within the warmth of hearths and boiling pots. Nizzella, a retired headwoman, took over most of Gunilla's educational needs, teaching her things only a woman can teach a growing woman, priming the girl to eventually join the Bakercraft at the age of 12.
It was here Gunilla came to apprentice under Pilae, Journeywoman who specializes in pastries and other delectable delights. When Pilae transfered to Ista when a new posting opened up, Gunilla followed, along with a gaggle of other young girls, to continue their studies in hold management, the proper way to fold dough, and other exhilarating tasks (her most hated being forced to check supply rooms for tunnel snakes and rats). She hates. Rats. And tunnelsnakes? To hear her scream you'd think she was being murdered.
Eventually the girl turned 14 Turns, became a full apprentice just before her Turnday, and embarked with a frenzy upon tarts, creation of icings, breads, and most importantly cookies. If there is one thing Gunilla is proficient at is making these sumptuous creations, though occasionally she does confuse sweetners with salts (pranks, most often, by other girls) and sickness hits the Hold folk occasionally by her attempt at desserts.
However at the hatching at Ista Weyr the late arrival of she and the gaggle of Baker Girls resulted in she and Imee being Searched. Pilae was not impressed with the snagging of her two Apprentices, however not one to stir the pot she gave permission for both girls to Stand with the warning that they immediately return to Hold upon the day of the Hatching. Unless, of course, either was meant for a dragon soul to twine with hers.
And here Gunilla starts on her new adventure. Eek.
Personality
She can be quick to tears just as quick as she can be to laughter, soft in some spots from over indulgence by her Uncle G'dal and the woman in love with G'dal, Nizzella, and tough in other parts when it comes to criticism of her cooking (however, an insult of her tarts will enrage her and cause a hissy fit that is still whispered about by the other baker apprentices posted with her under Pilae). She can be overexcitable at times and unspeakably sad at other times due to hormone shifts as she continues to grow into a woman.
She loves baking, tiring of the more mundane tasks easily, boredom usually leading to pranks, or silly games played with those around her. She is a secret santa almost all Turn round, gifting those she enjoys with wrapped treats left without note around their personal spaces, especially when a particular batch of bread or sweets has turned out quite well.
For the most part she's easy going, having inherited her uncles propensity for being laid back and letting the world come as it may. She's sad she doesn't remember her mother, but frequent assurances by G'dal that she would have been proud of Guni assuage the girl considerably. Even though there is no real religion on Pern, Gunilla firmly believes her mother is watching her. Afterall, who else could be responsible for everything good that happened to her?
Plans?!
Oh my gawd, I have no cluuuuuueee. I am letting this girl go where she will, traveling Pern with her Journeyman Pilae from Hold to Weyr and from Weyr to Hold again, seeing just where she finds her niche. Maybe she has a dragon in her cards! Or maybe just a sweet new tart. I do know I plan on finding as much RP as possible whilst having as much fun as possible. I can't wait to meet and RP with everyone. :)
Candidate Questionnaire
1. Gunilla grew up for the most part in Igen under the somewhat watchful eye of her Uncle and Auntie Nizzella. Life growing up was as crazy as it gets living in a Weyr, though she was somewhat spoiled by Niz and G'dal and sheltered as well as a result. While some Weyrbrats may be pseudo-wordly by the time they're grown-up, unfazed by most things common to a Weyr, Gunilla will blush almost constantly around anything a Hold girl would. Nudity? Full out red alert! Her family is fairly small, just her, G'dal and Fanneth. She's always wanted a ferret but her Journeywoman, Pilae, tells her they're dirty creatures, just like rats, and a proper baker shouldn't house the vermin, let alone feed them. Siblings were never given the chance to pop into the picture, her mother dying at too young of an age, though there may be some floating about from her father whom she's never known.
2. She's friends with most of her baker mates (Friends, however not *close*, sharing a healthy need to compete with each and everyone), Nizzella, Pilae (though she has a healthy fear of the woman and her spoon), and Uncle G'dal and Fanneth. She will go out of her way to try and get her uncle to bathe, braiding his hair and beard occasionally to try and keep him clear for a while, conspiring with brown Fanneth where she can to accomplish this.
3. When she's so happy that she just feels close to bursting (which is often), she'll most likely burst into giggling tears, fanning her face and blushing furiously. I love how sweet she can be, but she's got a mean streak in her when it comes to winning and I think that's quite fun. She's not above cheating where she has to, one of the cons of overindulgence by her stand-in parents, G'dal and Nizzell. I also think it's cool that while she didn't get to be raised by her birth mother, she had a ton of maternal figures that filled the gaps. How would I like to build on it? I think it'd be kind of cool to bring out that competitive spirit out of her, to kind of crush the side of her that's a little simpery and girly. Round her out into becoming a proper young woman, perhaps with a bit of entitlement.
4. Hmmmmmmmmm. If I could change something about Gunilla …She's at that weird age. She's in constant flux, trying to find a place to fit in. How could people help? Yikes. Just RP with her, she'll bud and will be changed by those around her really. Totally vague answer but I kinda think she's constantly changing, especially at this age when they're coming of age and discovering who they are. I guess I'd like her to discover who she is. That's not a too tall order to fill, is it? ;)
And. I finally got a livejournal! Granted, I've RP'd not so much but I took some time before bed to make one: http://gunilla-df.livejournal.com/
Personality
Mika is very much
History
Mika is a native of Ista Weyr. She was born to a pair of lower cavern workers. Her father, Bykali, has risen to a respectable rank amongst the lower caverns folk, in that he is frequently placed in charge of larger repair projects about the weyr. Like wise her mother, Milara, is in charge of one of the groups of the regular menders down in the lower caverns. Both are very sensitive to rank and station, though not quite so much as Mika has become. Mika's brother, Bylaran, who is older by 3 turns, was always a firebrand, driving his parents to distraction with one escapade after another.
He was very fond of his shy little sister and managed to keep her out of the worst of his own trouble. He also went out of his way to shield her from the nastier minded of the weyr bullies, a protection that evaporated when he apprenticed to the Harper Hall at 11. The 8 year old Mika , only knew that she’d been abandoned by her only protector. Her parents, always worried when her brother landed her in trouble, were determined she would not turn out so disruptive. They redoubled their efforts in impressing proper behavior upon their youngest.
Her father was always the more laid back of the pair, but Mika’s mother was quick to jump on the slightest hint of rebellion or perceived discourtesy, not realizing that her daughter was cut from an entirely different cloth than her son. Mika did her best and retreated into a shell of absolute obedience and submission, which wasn’t helped at all by the fact she was still a target to the rougher elements of the lower caverns workers, who saw her as an easy target whenever they wanted to get out of something.
She managed to get away every now and then, though she didn’t see it like that. The Ista Hold wher handlers had asked for help at one point and she was sent. She found she actually enjoyed working with the animals. One of the old Aunties in the lower caverns made floral waters for and would tolerate the quiet girl, largely because Mika would actually listen to her ramble about the properties of this and that and speak wistfully of the stronger essences some of the traders bring back.
When she was 14, Kabrielle’s gold rose for the first time in 4 turns (after turns of recovery from a serious illness,) and Mika was searched for the clutch. She made a few friends, most notably one Ryskim who went on to impress a brown and became R’ki. The two grew close, though a few others she was less certain of, most notably Qiluin who became Q’luin after impressing bronze. She is still rather frightened of him, though it’s mellowed to wariness in the turns since the hatching.
She was one of a collection of candidates who stayed after failing to impress. Then Kabrielle died while Corana’s Naomith was still a weyrling and another long wait ensued. Most of the candidates drifted away, one by one, to other things. Mika’s life was little different than when she was growing up, still an endless repetition of chores.
She managed to find a firelizard clutch and on the advice of one of the old uncles, and in a rare spat of independence, she decided to sell them. The profit she turned from the 15 eggs was considerable, including some of the very oils that the old aunty had been wishing for. Unfortunately this drew the attention of one of the nastier branches of the lower caverns bullies (where there are people there will be bullies.) She took to hiding both her profits and the eggs until they were sold.
Eventually Naomith rose, and again Mika stood, and failed to impress. This time, between clutches, she found herself working with the headwoman Kezia, at first simply to keep the woman, one of her few friends, from overworking herself quite so badly, then because she came to enjoy it and to enjoy being useful. As time passed, others came and began to help as well. Asher, the weyrharper, discovered how much the Headwoman was overworking herself, and arranged for the Hall to send a few of their apprentice scribes to help at least with the basic record maintenance.
Clutches came and went and turns passed. Gold riders also came and went, and Mika alternated between candidate chores and the Headwoman's office. When Kezia also left, one of the assistants, a brassy woman named Blanche, stepped into the position, and, while never formally appointed, no one has yet challenged her right to give orders. Mika, for her part, has seen no reason to, though working under the pushy woman has had an unforseen effect, in that Mika learned how to push back, rarely with great force, but the circumstances have added a little spine to the timid little mouse that first stood seven turns earlier.
Yes! Mycroft looks like Ben Wishaw in Brideshead Revisited! Woo hoo!
And I finally found a better picture:

This is a sort of summarized version of Mycroft's background:
Mycroft was born to Adelle and Maxwell of Ista Weyr. Adelle was the daughter of a herder journeyman and Maxwell was, at the time, his apprentice. After a few months of their tryst, Adelle became pregnant, and fearing the wrath of Adelle's father, the two lovers eloped to Ista Hod where they hid until Mycroft was born. Adelle and Maxwell were both sixteen at the time. They fostered Mycroft to a nanny at Ista Hold, an old woman who was nearly blind. This woman, notoriously ineffective, merely fed the boy and let him loose on the weyr. The man to whom she was handfasted, however, took an interest in raising Mycroft, mostly in the interest of setting him on a right and virtuous path. The man was a herder and taught Mycroft what he knew about that, but he also tried to instill a sense of right and wrong into Mycroft. When it became apparent that Mycroft was a little off, in that he probably wasn't going to get handfasted to a young girl and settle down, and that he was also a wild uncontrollable brat, the man abandoned him except for the occasional beating and mouth cleansing with sandsoap.
Eventually, at the age of sixteen, Mycroft could no longer stand his life at Ista and took off with the next trader clan that came through, with nothing more than the clothes on his back. It wasn't exactly that the clan valued his presence because he was weak and sickly and not suited for life on the road but the son of the head of the clan begged his father to let him stay. The two ended up sleeping together in the woods near a campsite the very night they met and for a month continued to do so until his father discovered their relationship. Mycroft and the boy, Lyren, whose father threatened to kill Mycroft, escaped into the woods, lost and alone. The two somehow with little to eat and no sense of direction found themselves at Fort Hold where they took up residence, sharing one small cot in the dorms. Eventually, however, Lyren became quite popular around the hold and it was clear that Mycroft was not really fitting in. To make matters worse, Lyren had an affair with a green dragonrider and Mycroft was left heartbroken, alone, and restless. Not even telling Lyren he was leaving, he set out for Ista Weyr on a wagon again. Having come full circle, at Ista Weyr, Mycroft took up a position as a stablehand taking care of a lackluster group of nags. Soon afterwards, while hanging out in the galleries with Q’luin, Zhoreth and Essiach, Tia and Kyraceth enslaved Mycroft for their own evil purposes!
2) Mycroft isn’t really close to anybody at the moment. He’s recently been dumped and moved to the weyr so he’s attempting to build new relationships. However, he’s particularly bad at doing that. Hopefully, he’ll make some friends in the weyr and during his candidacy.
3) The personality trait that I like most is, strangely enough, that he’s cold and clinical. I like playing it because it’s bizarre to feel detached emotionally from everything and can be interesting to play. I rather prefer it to an effusive sort of character who gets overly emotionally involved because it points to something that needs to be fixed in my character. While ‘perkiness’ doesn’t always point to happiness, quite the opposite, actually, I enjoy playing a character that is somewhat more removed. It’s such an unusual thing because I am in complete opposition to such a personality trait. I also like that he’s somewhat of a brat and thinks he’s the best thing since sliced bread. It’s really fun to be a pompous jerk in the fake world, not so fun to be one in the real world. While Mycroft does have this side to him, there is a playful side that I love to play as well. Usually, it's playfulness at someone's expense but it can be fun nonetheless. I also like that he's a total girl. That's always fun.
4) I want Mycroft to be less reserved and become not extroverted but more open to people. I don’t want him to stop being cool and clinical but I want him to be open to experiences and to relationships. I don’t want him to lust and say well that’s a biological response to pheromones in his sweat. I want him to be able to open up and fall in love. That’s very hard to do, especially for someone who is so closed off.
Personality
Mycroft is overall a quiet boy with solitary attitudes. He is introverted and secretive and considers others that are more extroverted to be obnoxious and irritating. His outlook on life is often very black and white and there is little room for grey. He is not so ignorant that he believes that people can’t be multifaceted but he is often surprised when they are. He is also rather quick to make assumptions about people and tends not to give them a second chance to fix their first impressions.
Mycroft looks at everything with a clinical eye and tends to come off as cold and aloof. He also tends to come off as a jerk because he is so aloof. People think that he acts the way he does because he thinks he’s better than everyone else. This is probably true, actually.
While usually quiet, in the company of those he knows he can be quite talkative. Usually, because he is somewhat self-centered, he talks about himself. He is also somewhat manipulative and, if he wants to be, quite charming. While there is that element of deceitfulness in his personality, he can be quite empathic with those he cares about. It’s just that it takes a lot for him to care. He is also a little sassy, sarcastic and just pretends like he doesn’t give a crap about anything. At the same time, he is effeminate and prone to emotionality though he prefers to keep that side of him hidden. He feels criticism as though it were magnified because he is so sensitive, a typical element of a slightly narcissistic personality. His affect is well modulated well and it’s hard to determine what he’s feeling based on how he looks.
Mycroft is also a very jittery boy and until he was eight he talked with a stutter.
Ildenin's LJ: http://ildenin.livejournal.com/
Ildenin
Athletic in build and form, an almost understated subtlety shows along the every movement and gesture upon this young man's rather tall frame. Masculine features are obvious, from the angled line of his chin and jaw to the toned swell of muscles along his shoulders and chest. Proportions tend more to a build wrought of an active life, giving him lithe muscles as his fair skin is cast with a tan that tends to a life outdoors. The irises of his eyes are a glacial blue, flecked with cracked ice and fractured sunbeams. His sandy blonde hair drops with a careless intent to the nape of his neck with sun-bleached waves and curls that lay without care or chaos to leave him falsely just this side of boyish.
Ildenin was raised in a hold upon the peninsula of Nerat. Not an important hold or anything, just your average boondocks hold for tilling the land and caring for 'beasts. He was the youngest of a fair-sized brood of kids, including older sister Gwynne. Their mother had died in childbirth, so they were raised by their hidebound father.
Ildenin got along famously with his older siblings, playing the part of tag-along younger brother perfectly. He was the sort of kid who kind of got lost in the mix of others, and would wander off or try to do everything that all of the older kids were allowed to do -and protested mightily on the unfairness of it all if he couldn't. Now, dearest dad and Ildenin didn't exactly see eye to eye on a lot of things. Dad would blame just about anything that any of the kids would do wrong upon 'that bad trader blood on your mother's side'. And Ildenin would get that muttered about him quite a bit.
Around the time of Ildenin's thirteenth turnday, something finally gave. Headstrong, the constant arguing with his father and a complete lack of interest in remaining upon the home hold caused this newly minted teen to have a moment of rebellion that would change his life forever after. In the heat of the moment and following through upon a threat to run away, Ildenin actually did it. He left the hold for a bit of outside adventure, feeling the thrumming in his veins of that rogue 'bad trader blood'.
Unfortunately, this wasn't a teenaged joyride. Coming from such an isolated hold, and perhaps not quite hearing immediately that Thread was already falling in other places, Ildenin decided to take a rebellious teenaged moment at probably the worst possible time. He really didn't have an intentions to go and join the 'circus' or anything, that's what comes from fleeing on an impulse. So it was pure happenstance that led him to be 'ambushed' by a group of rather questionable personalities.
A young boy on the road, angry at the world and a hidebound father? Oh yes, he'd be so easily taken in by the lawless crowd, the renegades. He was willing. They weren't so lawless as one would believe, for they had their own rules, and harsh penalties for infractions. Survival of the fittest. Ildenin found himself brought under the proverbial wing of one such well-spoken malcontent, who believed that the land belonged to all and just like in nature, only the most cunning and mightiest flourish. It wasn't an innocent or mentor/mentee relationship, but it had its relevance to the person he is now.
Used as the look out and one of the scouts for the band, Ildenin wasn't immune to the harsh realities and utter ruthlessness necessary for the life of a renegade. There are stories here that he will never speak of, ever, and things that he'll never tell anyone. He is honest with himself about what he saw and the things he aided, and will bear that cross for the rest of his life. Being without a roof over one's head when Thread starts falling from the skies shows just how mean one's existence is and how desperate one can be to find shelter.
It isn't so easily to leave the renegades once you join their ranks. They aren't so forgiving to those that wish to return to a more respectable life. Sick of the life, and what he saw, and the utter desperation of a life in a time of Thread, Ildenin wanted out. He knew he made a phenomenally bad decision turns past, and he wasn't about to give his life to these people. So when the opportunity arose to scout the Southern Continent, he took it. Where better to lose yourself than a continent away?
Chance led him and a companion to Ista Hold, and chance again one dark night in a Hold garden left him the focus of much attention. Ildenin isn't proud of the lengths and desperation that led him to try to kill an innocent woman who simply was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was locked up and willing to die for his sins, uncomfortable in the knowledge of what he would do for freedom.
But the desire to live is a strong force. Knowing his only that what was in his head would be the key to getting out, Ildenin bargained for what he knew about the renegades he was with in exchange for a sort of indentured servitude to Lord Holder Sterling. He'd testify to the leaders of Pern before a conclave, give them over everything he knew, and from there he'd have a chance at redemption and a new life.
Alas, it's funny how things work. So it is with an attempt on his life and an order of protection by one of the few places on Pern that renegades would have one hell of a time getting into, that Ildenin was sent to Ista Weyr. To add to the craziness of it all, S'tao's Sephiroth even though he'd do as a candidate too.
It's a crazy, crazy world out there.
Candidate Questionnaire
1) Tell us about your character's background. Where did they grow up? What was their childhood like? Do they have siblings? Lots of extended family?
I guess I explained most of this in the beginning, so I'll skip this one.
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
As of right now, Ildenin isn't that close to many. In fact, he probably seems rather 'stuck up' considering he doesn't confide in many other than typical banter. Both superiority and inferiority show themselves in his aloofness, oddly enough. He is very careful and protective, I guess you can say. Beyond those reasons though, the only person he is moderately close to, who he can somewhat let his guard down around is his older sister Gwynne.
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
There are quite a few things that I love about him; his snappiness, intelligence, philosophy on life, fascination with all things associated with Smiths, lack of patience with others. But above all, I love how he talks. Despite his background, Ildenin is very careful about the words that come out of his mouth, and how he uses them. It's refreshing to have a character with such a rich vocabulary, and isn't against cursing or tossing out language a Lord or Harper would use to get his point across, and more often than not it'll be said in a way to challenge and test others.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
I suppose the roughest thing with Ildenin is interacting with others. He's such a self-absorbed personality who hasn't a lot of patience for those who can't make his life easier or get him what he wants, that he is awfully rough to play around others. As I mentioned before, it does make him seem rather like he is looking down on so many, thus making interactions and RP difficult. I try really hard to make the teen more tolerant of the other candidates at times, and bring a more light-hearted amusement factor into things, but it is still difficult and I admit to worrying that it might put others off from playing with him. I guess all I'm asking for is patience as I try to continue to figure him out, and loosen him up.
Now Imee is official. This means, you get to do it all over again!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Imee is a Candidate originally from Bitra, cousin to Lords Amarik and Marryn, niece to Lady Auryn of Boll. She was fostered out to the Harper hall by her parents Raimen and Cherise when she was 11. Imee and the Harper hall did not mix, the girl utterly bored with the learning of ballads, writing, too weird to really get along with anyone without being picked on.
She found herself finding refuge in the kitchens more often than not, the kitchen holding a plethora of cupboards and nooks, the kind she could tuck herself away into and daydream all day long until evening time came. Eventually she was booted out of the Harper Hall since she obviously didn't want to be there, and the stress of trying to find the girl on one of her I'll Stay in the Cupboards Forever days was too much for most to handle. The next craft was chosen by her parents which just happened to be the Baker Craft, and she was apprenticed off, where she found her niche, as well as a group of girls equally as off kilter as she. When she expressed interest in focusing on desserts and pastries and all those delicate foods she found herself in the company of Gunilla, the two girls becoming fast friends. They followed each other apprenticing beneath Journeywoman Pilae who transfered to Ista Hold, and were Searched together as well.
Imee is afraid of bugs, llamas, croutons, and other odds and ends. And she's a gas to play, so hopefully you guys like playing with her too!!! She's definitely born in the wrong time, an anthropological biologist who unfortunately is stuck in a time that doesn't seem to understand her always. She's quirky, but means well, always struggling to find her place in a world that doesn't seem to fit girls like her.
But eventually she will grow up and find her place, it's just a matter of time, and patience, and a constant awareness of her surroundings.
And growing up doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Candidate Questions
1. She was born in Bitra to Raimen, Half-brother to Lady Auryn, and Cherise, youngest child out of six, five brothers born before her.
2. She's close to Mycroft (He just dont' know it!), Gunilla. Getting closer to others as time goes on, but those two tolerate her and maybe even understand her. She's warming to Essiach and Lisy slowly. Gwynne scares her but she's nice.
3. I love all her personality traits. She's so uber she un-NPC'd herself. She's so -weird- and she doesn't feel the need to change that for anyone. She just wants to understand everything around her, catalogue it, and really comprehend. That included the people around her. I don't know how you build on her weirdness, everyone does a good job of just enjoying it I guess. :-p She's roughly based on Daisy from daisyowl.com. READ IT. IT IS AMAZING. AND DAISY ROCKS. End caps. Also she's also a little bit of Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch. How I adore him.
4. More confidence in a good way I guess, she'll never really change weirdness wise, that's just *Imee*. More friends, but like, real friends. Hmm. And while I'm at it she'd like a pony, please. The Bovine Lors did not forbid her from riding animals. Just eating.
Hey, hey Ista, Search Co and fellow candidates! I'm excited I'm part of the group. So here's a bit more about me!!
1) Tell us about your character's background.
Azerra has grown up on Ista island, a little cot hold close to Ista Hold, right on the water. Her family has a touch of Bitran blood- faintly there, but obvious when it rears its head (you do not want a casual wager against a member of this family!). Her childhood has been pretty unremarkable up to this point- father and mother both decent working folk, no desperate tragedies, no accidents leaving her maimed or injured. She’s got an older brother and a little sister—leaving Azerra with a little hint of that lost (or lazy) middle child syndrome.
Which is why her mother- a removed cousin of Istan greenrider Lyna, contacted Lyna at Ista Weyr and convinced (or begged or bribed) her to take Azerra in for a few months. Let her have a little (supervised) adventure on her own in the big wide weyr. Hey, she’s still on the island, so how much trouble could she get into?
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
Azerra only spent one or two nights with Lyna until she moved down into the resident barracks. Afterall, she barely knew Lyna and she wanted to “do it on her own”. She quickly made friends with some other teenagers around her age there- bunking next to a couple of girls and boys. All of them are similar-wanderers from other holds without direct parental influence. Her best friends (NPCs) from this group is a girl named Liv and a boy named Olly.
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
I like it that Azerra to me, is a bit of the “every girl”. Yknow she’s not gorgeous, she’s not the loudest and she’s not the cleverest. She hasn’t come from some angsty background- she’s kinda the equivalent of solid middle class!
She’s really on this journey to find herself—and I think she’s gotten a bit of that independent feminine spirit from her mother. Afterall, the woman did have the idea to send her off on this adventure so she could blossom a bit on her own outside the safe, family unit. (Though, her mum is Icly going to have a fit when she finds out her daughter’s been Searched. That was NOT part of her plan!)
I really want to see how Azerra grows with this independence. I don’t have any set plans for the character, I want her to be able to change and grow based on the experiences she has Icly and the people she meets.
Apart from that though, she’s got a tendancy towards sarcasm, she’s pretty ready to jump into most situations with both feet, but sometimes icky stuff and cute riders make her squeal and or blush. Hey, did you forget she’s a teenage girl or something?
Remember though she’s, hold-bred, and though she might now admit to it or even act too often like one, she gets star-struck by Important Weyr People and would die a thousand deaths if she was to embarrass herself in front of them.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
I haven’t created Azerra with any trait to her personality I don’t particularly like- where would the fun be in playing that? I would like to though, express a bit more of her strong feminist side, and lose a bit of the middle child syndrome she has in private.
A little bit about me as the player of Azerra- I’m aussie, so you might not see me around on usual game busy times (I’m ahead by about 12-13 hours now I think) but if you would like me icly at time I’m not around, let me know whats happening and I will try to make it!
