Introduction
Darius is Ista Weyr born and bred from a weyr family. His mother, Rinata is a lower caverns worker and his father is a brownrider named D'raun. His entire life, Darius always felt like he could never satisfy everything that his parents always wanted of him. He didn't Impress right at the age he was eligible and never really did anything else useful. He wandered around the caverns working when someone needed something until he was 16 Turns of age and he hired on to work in the Klah Pot as an assistant to the bartender.
Darius became more than a shadow in the background right after that, rumors flying that he was romancing Weyrwoman Wyn and then there was the incident where Q'luin dubbed him 'Lord Firestone' and insisted that he have charge of finding out where some of the weyr's firestone had wandered off to. Ai'den was involved in the project and told to report to the flabbergasted weyrbrat and he did his best to not completely disgrace himself.
Darius stood once previously for Isyth and Zhoreth's clutch and walked off with his little brother Orinlatan, neither one impressing a dragon.
Questions
1) Tell us about your character's background. Where did they grow up? What was their childhood like? Do they have siblings? Lots of extended family?
Weyrbrat through and through, Darius grew up right at Ista Weyr. His childhood was spent terrorizing the caverns, especially the creche-workers. When he finally reached the period where he was expected to be a contributing adult, he took up a post as an assistant in the Klah Pot, serving drinks and cleaning tables. Darius has family all around the weyr, from relatives of his mother and father to a slew of half siblings. Maternal half-sibs are as follows: R'tov (bluerider), Natasya (JMan Smith), Orinlatan (weyrbrat), Ranita (weyrbrat) and Tranvis (weyrbrat).
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
Darius is more than willing to be a friend with anyone who wants to hang out with him. He's recently started to get along with his younger brother, Orinlatan. He also has a dolphincrafter friend, Taelya and gets along great with both Jeneeva and Janessa. He'd like to develop some new friendships with people around the weyr.
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
Darius likes people. He likes to get to know them, he likes to create friends where he can and I'd like to be able to expose him to situations where he can build some interesting relationships. Darius is also more easily led by the people close to him. He wants to make other people happy so much that sometimes he goes way out of control. Darius needs a little more maturing perhaps some training to be less of a people-pleaser… or at least to know how to better draw lines.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
Characters grow and change and develop over time and RP. There's nothing really I hate about Darius, though it might be fun to explore the more mischievous part of his personality. What I'm really looking for and would really enjoy is RP, RP, RP.
Hi, my name is Jacey and I'm awesome, so awesome that I'll for sure add stuff in here.
History
Prior to arriving at Ista, Jordan spent the earlier part of her childhood at Southern Hold, remaining there until her parents, both Journeymen Harpers, left the craft. Failing to be promoted, and unable to reconcile his differences with the Masters, Jordan's father decided a life in the craft was not for him. Her mother followed suit, and together the entire family moved to one of the smaller cotholds within Southerns territory.
After an accident claimed the lives of their parents, Jordan and her brother were uniformly adopted by an older couple within the cothold. Jordan was eight, and her brother was thirteen, far too young to lose such important people in their lives. Their loss served only to strengthen their bond. The pair were taught many things by the couple, such as what was necessary to survive away from the protection of the Hold. It was a hard life, but not an unpleasant one and Jordan has nothing but fond memories of her time at Southern. Indeed its left her with much to be thankful for.
Candidate Questions
1) Tell us about your character's background. Where did they grow up? What was their childhood like? Do they have siblings? Lots of extended family?
Without flinching or faltering, Jordan will stick to the story above as being the honest and genuine 'where I'm from' story everyone gets asked at some point. But the truth is a bit more complex, and definitely not known to just anyone.
Jordan was born in Southern and was raised by her parents up until their death. She and her older brother were essentially adopted by another couple, though it was primarily her brother who raised her. Her childhood was normal - by the standards of the group she was raised in. Which is to say that she didn't spend her time playing games or doing menial tasks so much as learning why the world was so frakked up and what all needed to be done to un-frakk it. She also learned how to be what was needed by those that raised her. It lead her to become quite the forceful personality, one with a narrow, jaded view of outsiders and an over inflated sense of self and self-purpose.
She was a star in a world that was shaped and guided by rules. Despite its drawbacks, her upbringing afforded her the means by which to become a strong, self sufficient person. Albeit one that operated within that rigid structure, accustomed to following ideas set before her and a very much dog-eat-dog hierarchy based on skill, ruthlessness and usefulness. She was a fighter, a thief, a topnotch manipulator. Jordan felt leagues above the people she and her adoptive family preyed upon, and rarely felt remorse for those they took advantage of and on occasion, hurt.
There were raids on minor holds, on well-to-do travelers between said holds or simply caught unawares, there were plots and ploys designed to give Jordan's adoptive family leverage over people of means and wealth and then there were brazen robberies of soft targets - places that were far too easy to get into and out of, that were begging to be robbed.
Wonder of wonders, it took visiting Ista and meeting its myriad of characters to bring things into perspective. Living the life she scorned and laughed at afforded her the opportunity to see that it wasn't as flawed as she'd originally been lead to believe, nor was it anything less than what she'd lived previously. Through experiences that followed, she gained a deeper appreciation for the right way of doing things and at cost, she even came to understand that there was no honor among thieves. Better still, that she really, truly wasn't all that she thought she was.
She no longer saw herself and the people she'd proudly called family as harbingers of a new and better way of living, but as what they truly were. Glorified thieves and terrorists operating under the greed of a man who wished only to serve his own personal agenda.
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
That depends on your definition of close. If, for instance, you mean close-as-kin then that'd extend to a sum total of two people. Cameron, her brother and Ai'den, her weyrmate.
If you mean people she finds "amusing and fun to be around" then that'd be a bit broader and would encompass a handful of people (in no particular order): D'yce, I'es, T'syn, Qil, I'deni and Thevaryn.
Then there are people she isn't sure of, but feels they have something to offer. Jordan just has no idea what that is or how she'll even begin to approach forming something more than a casual interaction with. It's a much smaller group because Jordan tends not to venture far out of her comfort zone: Wyn, Klohi
So obviously, Jordan is fairly exclusive in who she forms relationships with. She still has high standards in what she looks for in people, and tends not to have a lot of patience for the 'types' of people she feel have nothing worthwhile to offer her or the world in general. It has to be said that while she's quick to judge, she's equally humble in admitting when she's been wrong in stereotyping someone (just probably not so much to that person's face).
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
I like everything. As boastful as that sounds, she is truly one of my most favorite characters. I love her confidence and her straightforwardness, I love that she doesn't feel the need to be anything other than what she is and that she rarely feels the need to try and impress people. It's their job to impress her and she constantly measures and tests people. It's second nature to her and while it definitely doesn't win her many friends, it serves her well because it's how she decides who she surrounds herself with and the quality therein tends to be relatively high.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
I think if there were one fault I would pinpoint and say, for sure, that /that/ is what makes Jordan not so great is that she's not the most approachable person. While it works for the character (who doesn't really want people poking around her business, let alone annoying her) it doesn't work so well for the RP scene. It's been a long, ongoing effort, one I know I haven't been entirely successful in but I am earnest in it and do truly want to make a character that is still true to her intent yet still approachable by a myriad of people. I guess having patience and understanding and a willingness of people to communicate with me and tell me what's working and what's not working would definitely help.
Misc
I'm Orinlatan, call me Orin. My name is huge and this page will be too, soon!
- Rh'iad's contribution, I just have to leave it.
Intro
Orin was born and raised in Ista Weyr. He's only left a handful of times, once to Tillek with E'siac, where he ended up in the local stocks due to a barfight, once to Boll, and several trips to Ista Hold, but does that really count? Up until the end of his fifteenth turn, he spent most of his life basically invisible. And it worked for him. A direct result of embarrassing behavior by his older sister, Asya, including not-so-uncommon behavior of older sisters putting their younger brother in dresses. But the public embarrassment drove the already timid boy to strive to simply not be noticed.
On the plus side, he used this natural tendency to avoid the worst of chores, even managing to avoid chores entirely some days. This was especially true once the glows started failing, the fading light casting broader shadows for those who didn't wish to be noticed. At least until he ran into Q'luin and Wyn one dark night. Wyn invited him to work as her assistant and that began his time of growth. An encounter with Ai'den and Kaijuth spurred the growth of his relationship with his older brother, with whom he'd always competed as a kid, and as time went on, Zhoreth caught Isyth, sliding his rapidly growing father-figure into the position of Weyrleader, a strong source of pride for the lad.
His time as Q'luin's assistant probably spurred the greatest growth in him as a leader, all the things he'd simply watched when he was invisible granting him some insight into needs and desires he might otherwise have been oblivious to. By the time Isyth took to the sands, he had fallen into an easy routine, comfortable with his position as the Weyrleader's Assistant and, like most kids would be, a touch too prideful about the post. Despite his growing attachment to Jeneeva, apprentice harper, there was no way the weyrbred lad would have said no when Q'luin offered him the white knot for Isyth's clutch. The time of candidacy allowed him and Darius to grow even closer as brothers by sharing activities and dreams. Being left cut Orin's inflated ego like a knife. For all it was easy for him to /say/ he didn't expect to impress, the truth was that with his relationship with Q'luin he had begun to expect it as a way to please himself and make his adoptive father proud. When that failed, he almost gave the knot back, but his desires won through, approaching his second candidacy with a renewed light, a touch of fear, and a solid determination.
Questions
1) Tell us about your character's background. Where did they grow up? What was their childhood like? Do they have siblings? Lots of extended family?
I covered most of this up above. Orin's got five siblings. In order of age they are R'tov (bluerider), Natasya (Journeyman smith), Darius (candidate), Ranita (Weyrbrat), and Tranvis (Weyrbrat). Beyond that he has his mother, with whom he is not close. He has also come to see Q'luin as a father and feels a similar bond to Q'luin's oldest biological son, Jacey, as he does to Darius, not quite as strong, but it hasn't had as many years to grow.
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
Orin is closest to Q'luin, Darius, Jeneeva, and Jacey. After that Janessa, Gavreel, and Taelya. He's only become reasonably social in the last turn or so and even then, though he's friendly to most folks, being friendly with is a different issue.
Q'luin: The father who didn't have to be. A lot of kids grow up in the Weyr not knowing who their parents are, but knowing it's normal doesn't make it easy for a teenaged lad. Q'luin stepped into the role of male role-model for Orin and treated him like his own kids. There is absolutely nothing that Orin is more grateful for in the world than that. Even now, when it seems his father could use a hug from /his/ father, Orin has no doubt of the goodness inside Ista's Weyrleader.
Darius: Darius is less than a turn older than Orin. They spent most of their childhood competing and it's only recently (ironically enough by virtue of Kaijuth's mouth) that they started getting along. Once they stopped hating each other they actually turned out to have quite a bit in common and have since gone through quite a bit together, including their first candidacy.
Jeneeva: Jen's a sweet girl Orin's formed a bond with, perhaps too deep of one for their age. He's most over-protective of her, second only to Q'luin. And at least with Jen he's not wrong half the time.
Jacey: Jacey's his little brother in the same way that he's Darius'. They haven't known each other as long, but he feels obligated to Jacey. To help keep him going and take care of him. To be the 'big brother'.
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
Now that's a hard question. He's at an age where he's very mutable. The personality trait I most enjoy rping is his hero-worship of Q'luin, mostly because it's hilarious, but I fully expect that will fade with age and experience. I'm not certain I can pick a favorite amongst his other traits, but I think where he has the most room to grow is in his devotion to duty. He can be stupidly so in his need to please and he has a strong tendency to pursue one duty with single-minded abandon to the detriment of others. I'd like him to learn better control and balance between his need to please and his pride and how to temper his actions in relation with his intellect.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
There's not much I want to change about Orin. I like allowing my characters to grow organically and he has grown in leaps and bounds since I first created him and has continued to grow. Others simply existing and interacting engender change, but there's nothing specific I'm looking for in this regard other than what might be termed learning experiences.

ZEEK. ZEEK. EEEK, it is ZEEK. Fill me in, man!
Jeneeva was born and raised on a small farmcot near the sea on Ista Isle. Her mother died when she was eleven turns old, leaving her abusive father to raise her and her siblings. When she was twelve she ran away from home to pursue her dream of becoming a Harper. She has an older brother Narek; their father's favorite who constantly bullies his younger sisters and is used to getting whatever he wants, even if he has to break a few rules to get it. This has gained Narek a bit of infamy around Ista Weyr and Ista Island as a whole. Her sister Janessa is her identical twin and the older of the two by three minutes. Janessa is constantly looking out for her twin, and tends to be the more blunt and confident of the two. She also has a younger sister named Lenya who adores her older sisters and despises her brother. Jeneeva was posted as a Harper apprentice to Ista Weyr when she was almost fiften and has since spent a turn living at the Weyr. Her twin Janessa is an apprentice to Master Weaver Tobias and also posted to Ista Weyr.
Though close to her twin sister Jeneeva has formed a very strong bond with Orinlatan whom she cares a lot for. She also has a little sister type of relationship with Orin's older brother Darius. Before being Searched by Kaijuth and Ai'den, Jeneeva was a Harper apprentice with a talent for composition. She's not one to admit to her talents often though as she has a large problem with self-confidence. Her problem is so bad that when she's really nervous or in uncomfortable situations she sometimes stammers as she speaks. Generally Jen is sweet and caring and wants to help others though her attempts are sometimes met with mixed results. She can also be a bit naive and too eager to please, to the point where she lets people walk all over her.
Candidate Questions

Her twin Janessa is an apprentice to Master Weaver Tobias and also posted to Ista Weyr.
2) Who is your character close to now? Fellow crafters, residents, lots of people, or a few in particular?
Janessa: Janessa is an apprentice Weaver posted to Ista Weyr and Jeneeva's twin sister. The pair share almost everything with one another and Janessa is fiercely protective of her twin. Janessa is often snarky and sarcastic and tries to act tough. Jeneeva loves her twin more than just about anybody
Orinlatan: Orin is the only person Jeneeva cares for more than her twin sister. The two candidates are very close and before becoming candidates they were probably far closer than they should have been at their ages. They've kept a strong bond though and are trying to keep things from getting physical until they're a bit older.
Darius: Darius is like a big brother to Jeneeva and he thinks of her as a kid sister. The pair often call each other "Big Brother" and "L'il sister" and spend a lot of time together in their evenings.
Q'luin: Jeneeva looks up to Q'luin almost as much as Orin does but she isn't as hero worshippy as Orin about it. She can see Q'luin's faults but cares for him anyway. Sometimes in her concern for Q'luin or in attempts to help him she says or does the wrong thing, often landing her in trouble, but she hardly ever gives up on him
3) What personality trait or background element do you like most about your character? How would you like to build on that?
I like the fact that she's always wanting to help others and hates seeing others suffering. I think her learning dragonhealing would help foster that quality and allow her to actually help rather than just watching and feeling useless, which might help her with her confidence problems.
4) What would you change about your character if you could? How might others help you do this?
I would change her lack of confidence if I could. I think others might help her do this by allowing her to do things that make her feel useful and not so worthless. Even small things like first aid on a scrape or helping others with lessons or learning to do a chore properly would help her a lot.
